The studio and workshop is located in the centre of Ilkley, West Yorkshire. The space occupies the top floor of an old Victorian textile workshop. The building is constructed from brick with a tiled pitched roof. Timber trusses, purlins and roof battens are exposed along with the original timber floorboards. An array of windows line the East elevation and provide natural light.
The floor plan has been split into two distinctive zones that now accommodate an office space and a studio/workshop space. The office space will be used by the clients while the studio/workshop space will be used by the clients and the artistic community of Ilkley. An insulated stud wall clad in cedar shingles and corrugated sheeting divides the room and indicates these two zones. The new office is located behind this wall.
The new office space has been insulated with superquilt insulation and finished with birch plywood sheeting. A large extendable table is located in the studio/workshop space to provide a centre point for client and community engagement/s and workshops.
